His Civil War service record records that he enlisted on 1 Nov 1861 in Lexington, Ky, was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant on 1 Nov 1861 in Company A., Kentucky 24th Infantry on 31 Dec 1861, and mustered out on 2 May 1862 at Nashville, Tennessee.

His Civil War pension file records that Wiley Jones applied for an invalid pension on 8 July 1864, and his widow Sarah Jones applied for a widow’s pension on 24 Feb 1894.

This family is in my database only because there were two Green Jones recorded as age 12 in the 1860 census with fathers named Wiley Jones, and several family trees on Ancestry.com misidentify this one’s son as the William Green Jones who married Arnettie Smith and died in Morgan County. (Their son Samuel is also entered because his death certificate provides evidence of Sarah’s maiden name.) Whenever there are two (or more) people who are easily mistaken for each other, I like to enter all of them into my database in order to document which records and links belong to which individual, even if only one of them has any ties to the rest of my data.
