1850 census of Bath Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 24 July, lists on p. 9 as family #83:
Benjamin Wright, 76, farmer, b. Bartley Co., Virginia; Eva, 62, b. Sussex Co., N.J.; Eliza, 29, b. Fayette Co., Pa.; Katharine, 28; Mary, 26; Julia, 24; Jackson Yarbrough, 22. Marshall Bromagen, 12. Lewis M. Wright, 1. Katharine through Lewis born in Bath Co., Ky.
From later censuses, Katharine (Catherine) Wright is Lewis’s mother. What is uncertain is whether Catherine is a daughter of Benjamin and Eva, or their widowed daughter-in-law. (I cannot find a death record for her.) But most likely she is their daughter, since the 1880 census gives her mother’s birth place as New Jersey and her father’s birthplace as Maryland. It also lists her marital status as widowed, but women with out-of-wedlock children often presented themselves as widows when they could get away with it.
The 1860 federal census mortality schedule for Bath Co., Ky lists Benj. Wright, age 82, born in Maryland, died in Oct 1859, cause of death inflammation of bowels.
1860 census of Bath Co., Ky, Owingsville P.O., enumerated 11 Aug, lists on p. 225 as family #1630:
Catharine Wright, 39; Lewis, 12. Both born in Kentucky.
1870 census of Menifee Co., Ky, Frenchburg precinct, Rock House P.O., enumerated 14 June, lists on p. 1 as family #3:
Wright, Catharine, 49, keeping house; Lewis, 21, farm hand. Both born in Kentucky.
Two households below is the family of Hiram Wright age 55, born Virginia, who is married to my 1C6R, Comfort Ingram.
