The registry of Texas birth certificates contains an amended birth certificate filed on 14 July 1982 to correct the name for a birth recorded as Whirlie Brooks Pettit, born 11 Sep 1925 in Glazier, Hemphill Co., Texas from Whirlie Brooks Pettit to Allan Whirley Pettit, with the supporting evidence for the amendment being his military service record in the United States Marines dated 11 Nov 1943, and the affidavit of his sister Joanne Pettit Norrid dated 4 June 1982. The original certificate (file no. 63468) is not attached, but apparently his father’s name was mistakenly entered into the child’s name field rather than this being a name change, because he was recorded in the 1930 census as Allen W. Pettit.
