I know of no relationship between this Daniel Pettit and my own Pettit line, but since they lived in the same part of southeast Ohio where several of the sons and grandsons of my great-great-great grandfather Samuel Pettit and his second wife Rebecca Foster settled, and he had a son Matt who moved to the same part of West Virginia where my great uncles Johnnie and Willie moved, it is helpful to keep track of their descendants, at least until they moved out of the Ohio/West Virginia area.

It is possible that Daniel is related to Samuel (b. ca 1755) and Rachel Pettit of Greenup Co., Kentucky.

1850 census of Athens Co., Ohio, Lodi township, enumerated 12 Dec, lists on p. 27 as family #2345/2365:
Daniel Pettit, 39, farmer, b. Penn; Malissa, 28, b. Va; William, 11; Samuel, 5; Madison, 3; Lemuel, 1. All children born in Ohio.

1860 census of Lawrence Co., Ohio, Aid township, enumerated 3 Aug, lists on p. 37 as family #267/232:
Daniel Petit, 49, farmer, b. Pa; Melissa, 48, b. Va; William H., 19; Saml, 14; Madison, 3; Mary M., 8; Joseph, 5; Caroline, 4; Louisa, 1. All children born in Ohio. Beverly Blankenship, 30, b. Ohio.

The age for Malissa must be wrong by 10 years in either 1850 or 1860.

1870 census of Lawrence Co., Ohio, Aid township, enumerated 13 July, lists on p. 31 as family #219/200:
Petit, Daniel, 60, farm laborer; Caroline, 14, helps father; Joseph, 16, helps father; Eliza, 12, helps father; Presley, 8. All born in Pennsylvania. Vanmeter, Lydia, 20, house keeper, b. Ohio; Laura, 2, b. Ohio.
