His obituary reported:
“John A. Hanes - Forty-six years old, proprietor of the American Tailoring Co. of Logan, who died last week, was buried Monday afternoon in Logan Memorial Park followinng funeral services at 2 o’clock with Rev. A. J. Coffey and Rev. J. Green McNeely.
Surviving are the widow, the former Miss Martha Roberts, of Big Creek; the mother, Mrs. Mary Cogswell of Morehead, Ky.; three children by a former marriage, Mrs. Eddie Spears of Lorado, W. Va., Mrs. Frank Fenney, of Logan, and Boyd Hanes, of Logan; two sisters, Mrs. Alice English, of Huntington, and Mrs. Martha Phillips, of Morehead; six brothers, James Hanes, of Stollings, R. L. Hanes, of Muncie, Ind., A. B. Hanes, of Detroit, William Hanes, of Bryant, Wis., Isaac Hanes, of Seco, Ky., and Garfield Hanes, of Flint, Mich., and three grandchildren.
