Notes for James W. Riddle
Rowan Co., Ky birth register for 1878 lists James W. Riddle, born 1 Oct 1878, father Comodore Riddle born in Rowan Co., Ky, mother’s maiden name Amanda Nickell born in Carter Co., Ky.

Listed as age 2 in the 1880 census.
Notes for Millie Prather
Her death certificate records Millie Steagall, age 51 years 11 months 28 days, born 16 Aug 1878 in Kentucky, died 18 July 1929 in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, married, wife of Bob Steagall, father Frank Prater, mother’s maiden name Annie Donhou, both born in Kentucky, cause of death tuberculoses of the intestins and longues, informant Bob Steagall, Morehead, Ky, burial in Bradley Cemetery.

Since she was listed as age 4 in the 1880 census, with two younger brothers listed as ages 3 and 2, she cannot have been born in 1878. The earliest possible date would be in 1876, and 1875 or 1874 is more likely. (She was listed as 35 in 1910, and 45 in 1920. I haven’t found her in 1900.)

There is no stone for her in Clearfield (Bradley) Cemetery under any of her many surnames, but there are many graves that are unmarked or marked only with blank stones.
Notes for James W. & Millie (Family)
Rowan Co. Marriage register, Book A, lists on p. 107 the marriage of James Riddle to Millie Prather, 16 Mar 1897, by D. K. Jones, at the home of Commodore Riddle, witnesses I. F. Jones and Nathan Riddle. The bond and license application in Book 2, p. 286-287 give James's age as 18, occupation farmer, born and father born in Rowan Co., mother born Elliott Co. Millie's age is 21, birthplace Ky. It is recorded as a first marriage for James and 2nd for Millie.

James and Millie were apparently divorced, because on Millie’s marriage record to John Aldrich in 1908, she is recorded as “Miss Millie Prather”.

There are most likely two more children to this family. The 1910 census (see notes for Millie’s marriage to John Aldridge) lists Millie as the mother of 4 children, all living, but there are no children in the household. Bertha would have been 12 at the time and Hobart only 10, so they are probably living with their father or other relatives, perhaps under a different surname.
Census
I cannot find any record of James after their marriage. He may have moved to Muncie, Indiana, where Bertha and Hobart were married.
