Rowan Co. marriage book 4, p. 521, records the marriage of John H. Johnson, age 18, farmer, residence Christy, born in and both parents born in Elliott Co., to Mary S. Gregory, residence Morehead, born in Rowan Co. (age not recorded), on 28 Aug 1903 at the home of the bride by J. H. Gregory, witnesses A. J. Tirrell and Sam Foster.

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Brushy precinct, enumerated 15 Jan, lists on p. 7A as family #95:
Johnson, John H., 34, farmer; Mary S., wife, 41; Sarra M., dau, 15; Simon P., father, 57; Liddie M., mother, 64; Debord, Dorsie Lee, adopted, 1 11/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.
Dorsie Lee Debord is their great-nephew, the son of Sylvester Debord and Sarah “Etna” Alfrey, the daughter of Mary Susan’s oldest sister Lizzie Gregory and Harry Alfrey. Etna died in 1918. Sylvester was still living, but he was not remarried, and I guess he did not feel able to care for an infant properly.
