Notes for Samuel Thomas Hall
Kanawha Co., West Virginia death register lists Samuel T. Hall, age 69 years 1 month 29 days, died 25 Feb 1929 in St. Albans, parents don’t know, married, occupation carpenter, cause of death pulmonary tuberculosis.

The reported age at death would imply a birth date of 27 Dec 1859, but he does not appear in the 1860 census, and he is recorded as age 9 in the 1870 census, so it is apparently off by a year. His gravestone says that he was born 25 Dec 1859 and died 24 Feb 1929.
Census
1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, Polksville precinct, enumerated 7 June, lists on p. 7 as family #67:

Notes for Samuel Thomas & Mary Jane (Family)
Kanawha Co., West Virginia marriage records list the marriage on 15 Dec 1910 of Samuel Hall, age 45, divorced, and Mary J. Griffith, age 35, single, both born in Kentucky, in Charleston by J. C. Barr.
Census
1910 census of Kanawha Co., West Virginia, Cabin Creek district, precinct 17, ED 52, enumerated 23 April, lists on p. 12B as family #205/206:
Hall, Samuel J., 49, carpenter for coal co; Mary, wife, 34, first marriage for both, married 6 years, mother of 2 children, 2 living; Roy, son, 4; Mary E., dau, 2, b. WVa Ky Ky. All others born Ky Ky Ky.

This is the only record I’ve seen with a middle initial of J for Samuel. Also, unless this is a different Mary than the wife whom Samuel married in December 1910 and who is recorded with him in 1920, then he and Mary were not really married yet. (Sounds similar to my great uncle Johnny Pettit, who had three children with Ty Trent in West Virginia between 1899 to 1906, while he was still officially married to Malissa Clark in Kentucky, before eventually divorcing Malissie in 1908 and marrying Ty in 1911. He and Ty were inaccurately recorded as married in the 1910 census too. )

The next household is headed by Mary’s brother Holly, and includes their widowed mother.

1920 census of Putnam Co., West Virginia, Curry district, Hurricane precinct, enumerated 30 Jan, lists on p. 13B as family #250:
Hall, Sam T., 56, b. Ky Ky Ky, farmer; Mary, wife, 39; Roy, son, 14; Eva, dau, 12; Russell, son, 8.

Everyone except Sam (who is on the first line on the page) is stamped with West Virginia across all the birth place columns, not only in this family but down the whole page except for the last family.

1930 census of Kanawha Co., West Virginia, Jefferson precinct, enumerated 22 April, lists on p. 20B as family #449/468:
Crosson, Joseph E., 28, age at first marriage 24, carpenter; Mary E., wife, 22, age at first marriage 18; Mary E., dau, 4; Carrol L., son, 2. All born WVa WVa WVa. Hall, Mary, mother-in-law, 48, widowed, b. Ky Ky Ky; Russell, brother-in-law, 18, single, b. Ohio Ohio Ohio, laborer at odd jobs.

Note that the reported parent birthplaces for Mary Eva and Russell are inconsistent with the reported birthplace of Kentucky for their mother.
