George M. Hall owned and operated a mill on Craney Creek.

George and his oldest son Ben were among those indicted in 1868 for the murder of George's brother Isaac Hall. See my document on the Isaac Hall Murder for details.

His gravestone says that he was born Aug 1, 1827 and died Nov 22, 1900. The family history compiled by Mrs. Hassard Hall says instead that he was born in 1829 and died 19 Nov 1899. On the one hand, there are many errors in Mrs. Hassard Hall’s history; on the other hand, I cannot find George and Susannah in the 1900 census, which would give weight to the 1899 dates. (There is a George M. Hall age 82 born Apr 1818 in Morehead, with a wife Lizzie age 80 and son John age 30, but it records that they have been married 40 years and that Lizzie is the mother of only 3 children, so it is most likely a different family.)

Her gravestone is inscribed with the dates June 19, 1832 to Nov 29, 1900. I have a photocopy of a picture of it taken by Jean Burchett. The family history compiled by Mrs. Hassard Hall says that she was born 17 Aug 1828 and died 26 Nov 1899.

Note that although the gravestones and the history compiled by Mrs. Hassard Hall disagree by one year and three days on the death dates for both George and Susan, they agree that Susan died exactly one week after George did. Since gravestones are often erected years after the actual date of death, either pair of dates could be correct.

(Hal Phillips has her birthdate as 24 June 1831 and her death as 26 Nov 1899; I don't know his source for the birth date; the death date is probably from the Hall Family History).

In 1850 George was listed with his parents, as age 22, even though he and Susan had already been married for 2 years. Susan and the baby Mary Ann are not with them, and I have not been able to locate them in this census year. Perhaps they were off visiting some of her sisters in Menifee Co. or brothers in Missouri, and were missed by the census taker.
