Most information on this family and their descendants is from email correspondence with Nancy Cowan, a granddaughter of James' daughter Nancy Ann Hall.

James and Eliza Jane moved around a lot after their marriage, living in Bath, Mason, Robertson, Scott, and Harrison counties.

His death certificate records James E. Hall, died Apr 27, 1932 in Harrison Co., born May 12, 1847 in Morgan Co., parents Isaac Hall, born Virginia, and Jane Martin, born Bourbon Co, Ky. His marital status was shown as widowed, cause of death albuminuria (kidney disease), informant Tillie Hall Elliott.

(This is the only record I've seen which gives "Jane" as the name of Isaac Hall's wife. Her place of birth is also inconsistent with the census records, which all say she was born in Virginia.)

In the 1910 census James was listed in Liberal, Kansas with his son Robert as age 62, in the 1915 Kansas state census with Robert as age 67, in 1920 in Cynthiana, Kentucky with his daughter Matilda and her husband Henry Elliott as age 72, and 1930 with Matilda as age 83. Eliza died of consumption, and her funeral was held at the hotel. After her death Jim lived with his children, making several visits to Oklahoma to visit his daughter Annie, and to Kansas, where his sons John and Bob were living, then back to Kentucky where his daughters Tillie and Callie lived.

1870 census of Mason Co., Ky, #52/54 shows James Hall, 23, and wife Liza J. Hall, 30, both born in Ky, living with Susan Prather, 37, and her children Sarah, 16, William, 11, Abram L., 10, and Lenora 10/12.

1880 census of Robertson Co., Ky, Mitchells Mills Precinct #4, records as family #169/172:
James E. Hall, 33; Eliza, 39; William W., 9; Nancy A., 8; Cinthy C., 5; Robert, 2; Matilda M., 7/12.

1900 census of Scott Co., Ky, Georgetown, Broadway Street, records as family #173/192:
Jas E. Hall, 53, born Nov 1846, Hotel Proprieter, married 31 years; Eliza, 59, born Jul 1840, mother of 8 children, 5 living; Robt E., 22, born Mar 1878, hotel clerk; John A., 17, born Sep 1882, farm laborer. Also listed in the household were ten boarders.
