Notes for Frederick Quesenberry
The marriage date of Nancy Banks and Frederick Quesenberry is variously given as 1 Oct 1835, 8 Oct, or 15 Oct.
Cemetery Records of Carroll County, Virginia, p. 139, lists cemetery inscription for Frederick Quesenberry 74 years 4 mos 20 days August 1888 (unfortunately the day in August that he died is not in the book, no mention as to whether it was illegible, or not inscribed at all.) It is between stones for Annie Quesenberry 8 years 6 mos 23 Feb 1863 and Frederick Quesinberry 46 years 7 Feb 1846.
Mary Q. Kell's chart for Frederick has his dates as 6 Apr 1814 - 28 Aug 1888. This is off two days from the age at death cited above. Could be the age at death is wrong, or it could be the 6 or the 28 is wrong.
Census Notes for Frederick & Nancy (Family)
1850 Census of Carroll Co., Va, lists family #174:
Frederick Quesenberry, 36, farmer, $750; Nancy 34; Joshua 14; Salathiel 12; Mary 10; Louisa 9; Margaret 5; Penelope 3; Ruth 1. All born in Va.
In his notes to this census, John P. Alderman writes "Frederick (died 1888) was the son of Thomas and Tobitha (Cock) Quesenberry. He was raised on Snake Creek and married Nancy Banks, dau of William and Mary (Martin) Banks in 1835. Fred and Nancy lived on Road Creek, raised 11 children." (Note, however, that there are a total of at least 13 children implied by the 1850 and 1860 censuses.)
1860 Census of Carroll Co., VA, taken July, lists this family as:
Frederick Quisenberry, 46; Nancy, 45; Slathiel, 22; Louisa, 19; Abagil, 15; Penelope, 13; Ruth, 11; Joseph, 9; Franklin, 8; David, 5; Adeline, 3; Annis, 1. All born in VA. Abagil is probably the same as Margaret age 5 in the 1850 census. “Annis” is listed as female, but is really a son Anais.
1870 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Pine Creek district, Hillsville P.O., p. 112, lists as family #116/120:
