In his annotations to this census, John P. Alderman writes "William was a younger son of Frederick and Mary (Phillips) Quesenberry. He married in 1833 in Floyd, Sarah Cochran, dau of William B. and Rhoda (Pasley) Cochran. The family lived mostly in Floyd and returned there a few years after this census."

1860 census of Floyd Co., Virginia, Indian Valley township, enumerated 24 July, lists on p. 132 as family #949/886:
William Quesenberry, 49, farmer; Sarah G., 46; Wesley G., 24; Ransom C., 20; Wm J., 16; Susan E., 14; Sarah J., 12; Caroline E., 10; Robert H., 8; Floyd P., 3. All born in Virginia.

Odd that Ransome is four years old than would be implied by the 1850 census, and that William J., who did not appear with this family at all in 1850, has taken over his age slot. These ages are consistent with the 1870 census, though, which lists Ransome as 29 and William J. as 26, both heads of household.

1870 census of Floyd Co., Virginia, Indian Valley township, enumerated 20 Aug, lists on p. 18 as family #117/110:
Quesenberry, William Sr., 59, farmer; Sarah, 56; Robert, 18; Caroline, 20; Floyd, 13; Sarah, 14; Elizabeth, 12; Ballard, 10; Leona, 8. All born in Virginia.

At household 116/109 was their son Ransom, and at 118/111 was their son William.
