From John P. Alderman's annotated 1850 census of Carroll Co., pp 25-26:
"Isaac was born in Patrick Co., probably in 1805, to Giles and Nancy (Ingram) Martin. He married in 1827, Elizabeth Smith (1806-1897) dau of Peter and Martha (Hancock) Smith. Isaac came here about 1830, bought land on Cherry Creek near Fremont and prospered. His family was one of the few slaveholders in the county. He lost considerably in the Civil War, both property and relatives, and he died May 12, 1865, at the war's end."
The above notes are Alderman's. More detailed dates are from Janice Kinsler Smith, a descendent of Isaac's daughter Malesia Jane.
