The Kentucky death index lists David H. Pettit of Rowan Co. died 30 April 1962 in Menifee Co., age 55. (Bk 24, record 11624)

His stone in New Alfrey Cemetery is inscribed: David Pettit 1906-1962.

The Kentucky birth index lists Bearl Maney, born 23 May 1914 in Morgan Co., mother’s maiden name Mayme Lewis.

In the birth records of her children, her name appears as: Biryle, Beral, Bearl (twice), Pearl, Beryle, and Buyle. Aunt Ola spells it as Berle. Her marriage license spelled it as Burl. The phonebook had it as Bearl. It seems nobody spells it exactly like the jewel (beryl), though.

Rowan Co. marriage book 27, p. 36, records the marriage on 7 Mar 1932 of David Petit, age 22, divorced, son of J. T. & Belle Petit, to Burl Haney, age 18, single, daughter of Perry & Mamie Haney, both born in and residents of Rowan Co., at Blaze by G. W. Ratliff, minister of the Baptist church, witnesses Claudie Bishop and Lenora Moor.

1940 census of Preble Co., Ohio, Dixon township, ED 68-1, enumerated 22 April, lists on pp. 5B-6A as family #106:
Pettit, David, 34, farm laborer; Burle, wife, 25; Cathalene, dau, 7; Wayne, son, 5; David Jr., son, 3. All born in Kentucky, residing in Union Co., Indiana in 1935.

(At least during part of 1935 they were living in Kentucky, since Wayne was born there in Feb 1935. But maybe they were living in Indiana in April.)
