Her obituary in the Charleston Gazette reported “HANDLEY - Lula Mae Goodyear, 94, of Handley, W.Va., entered into rest on Monday, March 29, 2004, in Montgomery General Extended Care Facility.
Born Oct. 25, 1909, in Rowan County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Sarah Alfrey.
She was a member and former Sunday school teacher at the Handley Church of the Nazarene, Handley, W.Va.
Her survivors include her husband of 71 years, Harry Goodyear; daughter, Betty Lou Wendell of Pratt, W.Va.; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Handley Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Jim Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
O'Dell Funeral Home in Montgomery is in charge of arrangements. ”

Rowan Co. marriage book 20, p. 68, records marriage on 12 Mar 1926 of David Pettit, 21, b. Morgan Co., s/o J. T. & Belle Petitt, to Lula Alfrey, 16, d/o Harry & Sarah Alfrey, at Bangor by J. D. Johnson, witnesses Sam Alfrey and C. Armstrong.
I cannot find either David or Lula in the 1930 census, so I don’t know whether they separated before or after that date. David remarried in 1932, and Lula in about 1933.
