Notes for James Fletcher Scott
His U.S. Passport application, applied for on 30 April 1891, issued 5 May 1891, lists as requiring passports James F. Scott, born Lexington, Ky on 1 Aug 1840, wife Florence R. Scott, born Fayette County, Ky on 23 Jan 1841, and daughter Lena Scott (birthdate not given). He lists the following description:
Occupation hemp manufacturer, address 84 W. Third St, Lexington, age 51, stature 5 ft 11 inches, forehead medium, eyes gray, nose roman, mouth large, chin regular, hair dark mixed with gray, complexion dark, face long and slim.
A second application, applied for on 19 July 1895 and issued 1 Aug 1895, gives similar information, except that his daughter’s name is listed as Lena Stedman and then crossed out. (I imagine as an adult she required a separate application.) Also, his forehead is listed as high, his chin as prominent, and his hair as dark grey.
His death certificate (issued by city of Lexington, which began recording vital statistics before the counties or state did) records J. F. Scott, age 57, died 18 Nov 1897, occupation dealer in hemp, birthplace Lexington, cause of death appolexy (misspelling of apoplexy), cemetery six.
