Sam Cassity killed Sanford A. Debord in a knife fight in 1932; see Sanford’s notes for a newspaper article printed at the time. I don’t know how the trial turned out.

1910 census of Wyoming Co., West Virginia, enumerated 9 May, lists on p. 11B as family #164:
Casady, Samuel, 38, teamster; Zanie, wife, 27, married 10 years, mother of 6 children, 5 living; Lela, dau, 9; Millard, son, 7; Durse, son, 5; Vestie, dau, 3; Cladus, son, 1 4/12. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Also listed on the same page are Zanie’s brother Ollie Riddle with his wife Rosa, and Oliver Caudill and Frank Caudill, sons of Samuel B. Caudill and Amanda S. Hall, with their wives and children.

1920 census of Raleigh Co., West Virginia, Pemberton precinct, enumerated 10 Jan, lists on p. 13B as family #240:
Cassity, Samuel, 42, coal miner; Zona, 39, wife; Lelia, 18, dau; Millard, 16, son; Dirs, dau, 15; Vester, son, 12; Clovis, son, 11; Charlie, son, 9; Robert, son, 8; Lydia, dau, 7; James, son, 3 2/12; Hobert, son, 1 6/12. Charlie, Robert and Lydia born in West Virginia, all others in Kentucky.

The son Durse and daughter Vestie from 1910 seem to have switched genders to become the daughter Dirs and son Vester.

1930 census of Raleigh Co., West Virginia, Pemberton precinct, enumerated 23 Apr, lists on p. 23B as family #549/550:

The genders seem to be getting confused again. Durse/Dirs/Direst has gone back to being male. The daughter Clyides is the right age to be the son Cladus in 1910 and the son Clovis in 1920. Eddie is the right age to be the daughter Lydia in 1910.

The age for Louise looks like 43 overwritten by 42. Ancestry.com has transcribed it as 4. The ages that would fit in the age order would be 7 and 8, but it does not look anything like either of those.

Homer is the son of Zanie’s brother Ollie Riddle and his wife Rosa Elizabeth Mauk.
