Harold Fred Cassity, 76, of Coal City, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness.
Born July 3, 1923, in Pemberton, he was the son of the late Sam and Zanie Riddle Cassity.
Mr. Cassity was a retired coal miner, a member of Sunset Hills Missionary Baptist Church and UMWA Local No. 5995, and he also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Lela Bennett, Jewell Cassity, Vesta Wickline and Marceline Tabor; and 11 brothers, Millard, Arthur, Dirus, Cletus, Charlie, Eddie, Robert, James, Hobert, Allie and Kenneth Cassity.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Mae Elliott Cassity of Coal City; a son, Michael Cassity of Franklin, Tenn.; three daughters, Sparkle Greco of Beckley, Mary Hall of Crab Orchard and Drema Davis of Beckley; a sister, Louise Shekell of Berkley, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Williams-Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with the Rev. Wayne Holder and the Rev. Larry Penix officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
