Census
In 1900 he was listed as age 23, born Feb 1877, in Rowan Co. as a boarder with the family of William Thurber, age 39.
1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hoggtown prec., E.D. 156, page 1B, taken 15 Apr, records as family #22 (between Walter S. Fouch and John C. Day):
Wells, Norman L., 33; Rena, 28; married 4 years, first marriage for both, Rena mother of no children; Ollie, 4, step-daughter.
I don't know how Ollie could come to be a "step-daughter" of the head of household if Rena had no children. Maybe it means adoptive daughter?

Clipping reprinted in Rowan County Jottings by Leroy Hinton, from an unspecified local newspaper, probably the Mountain Scorcher: "Aug 11, 1905 - Elliottville: At Morehead Wednesday Aug 2nd at 1 p.m. Miss Rena Jones of near Morehead and Norman Wells were united in Holy Matrimony by Rev. Buddy Hall immediately after the ceremony the bridal party left for Elliottville where the groom owns a home and it is nicely furnished, he is a sober enerjetic and prosperous merchant of this place.
