Notes for James Boyd Jones
John and Nancy are buried together in the New Alfrey Cemetery. His stone says J. B. Jones, May 7, 1844 - Mar 18, 1914.
His death certificate records J. B. Jones, age 71, born March 1842 in Bath Co., Ky, died 17 March 1913 in Rowan Co., Ky, father William Jones, mother’s maiden name Barb Myes, both born in Bath Co., Ky, cause of death first lagrippe followed by bronchial pneumonia, burial in Alfrey Cemetery. (Informant blank.)
But he was listed as age 3 in 1850 and age 13 in 1860. It is not common for a six-year-old to be listed as 3 (let alone an 8 year old), and it is quite common for the children and grandchildren of elderly people to lose track of their exact age, especially when they were born before recording began, so I suspect the dates on the gravestone and death certificate are both wrong.
Census
The 1890 census of Union Civil War veterans lists James B. Jones resident in Morehead precinct, Rowan Co., Ky, recording his service as a private in the US Ky Cavalry, from 1862 to 1864. (No details on regiment.)
Notes for Nancy Riddle
Her death certificate records Nancy Jones, age 78 years 7 months 15 days, born 17 Mar 1848 in Rowan Co., died 12 Jan 1927 in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, widowed, father John Riddle, maiden name of mother Adeline Myres, cause of death mitral regurgitation, informant Mrs. Norman Wells, burial in Alfrey Cemetery.
