Census Notes for Dorsie Ray & Inez (Family)
1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearcy precinct, enumerated 24 Jan, lists on p. 7B as family #135/154:
Perry, Ray, 21, farm laborer; Inez, wife, 19. Both born Ky Ky Ky.
The preceding household is headed by Ray’s parents.
1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated April 7, lists on p. 14B as family #76:
Perry, Ray D., 31, age at first marriage 20, proprietor of garage; Judy, wife, 30, age at first marriage 19.
This is the only match I can find in the 1930 census. The marriage age fits, as does the occupation. And while the wife’s name clearly says “Judy” here, if the enumerator was working off of rough notes, as is a common practice, then it would be a reasonable transcription error to misread Inez as Judy. But that raises the question of where was Gwen, who should be age 5?
1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, ED 103-1B, enumerated 11 April, lists on p. 11B as family #263, on Rain St:
Perry, Ray, 41, owner & mgr of auto parts store; Inez, wife, 40; Gwendolyn, 15, dau. All born in Kentucky, living in same place but not same house in 1935.
