Pettit, George R., 45, b. Illinois Ky Indiana, single, farmer; Charlie W., partner, 29, b. Illinois Ky Indiana, single, farmer; Cyrus, father, 77, widowed, b. Ky Ky Ky; Lind, Alice, sister, 36, b. Minn Ky Ind, first marriage, married 7 years, mother of 5 children, 5 living; Mary, niece, 15; Eva, niece, 7; George, nephew, 5; // page break //Pettit, Victor, nephew, 3; Joseph, nephew, 1 4/12. All children born Minn Minn Minn.
Alice and all of her children should be recorded as Little, not Lind or Pettit. Apparently somehow her husband’s given name was interpreted as a surname, and then when the census taker flipped the page, he copied the surname from the head of household, George Pettit, rather than from Alice. Her husband Lindsey may be off working on a railroad.
1920 census of Pope Co., Minnesota, Glenwood ED 7-136, enumerated 5 Jan, lists on p. 3A as family #48/51:
Little, Linz, 43, b. Ohio U.S. U.S., laborer on railroad; Alice, wife, b. Minn Ky Ohio; George, son, 13; Joseph, son, 10; Dorethy, dau, 8; Dara, dau, 6; Edward, son, 2 8/12; Victor, son, 12. All children born Minn Ohio Minn.
