The daughter recorded here as Ulysses (odd name for a girl) is apparently the one recorded as Elesibeth in 1880. Two households above is the family of Gustaf and Mary Ring, whose daughters Anna and Emily would later marry Cyrus and Mary’s sons Cyrus and Charles.

This census taker consistently puts middle names or initials before first ones, reversing the entire name rather than just moving the surname to the front. The daughter listed as “Elize” is Alice, not Elizabeth. The baby Mary E. is her daughter.

The length of residency for Alice is longer than her entire life, but that is what it says. The residency for Cyrus and Geroge would put their migration from Illinois to Minnesota in March or April of 1865, but they do not show up in the 1865 Minnesota state census.

Alice Little is Cyrus’ daughter, and Linzy her husband. This census does not indicate family groups or households in any way, neither by relationship nor number, so it is impossible to tell whether the Little and Pettit families are living together. (It does have a space for mailing address, which would correspond to dwellings in an urban area, but everyone on the entire page just says R.F.D. No. 1.)

Alice and all of her children should be recorded as Little, not Lind or Pettit.
