The City Directory for Elkhart, Indiana listed Elmer C. Pettit with wife Margaret living at 1526 York in 1930. The 1930 census, however, shows no Elmer Pettit/Petitt family living in Elkhart County. It does, however, include the family of Grant Pettit and his second wife Emma Goldy living at 1826 York Ave. Grant would be Elmer’s uncle. Given the similarity of 1526 and 1826, this may represent either a typo or a misread handwritten form, and suggests that Elmer may have been briefly living with his uncle. (Grant and Emma are not listed in the City Directory.)
