Notes for Clark S. Crouch
In most censuses, as well as the death certificate of his daughter May, for which he was the informant, his name is given as Clark S. Crouch. But on his own death certificate, for which his son Dewitt was the informant, his middle initial is given as C.
It states Clark C. Crouch, age 75, born 10 May 1855 in Ky, died 9 Dec 1932, farmer, married, husband of Anna Pettit, father Jesse Crouch, maiden name of mother Amanda Clark, cause of death carcinoma of liver, informant D. C. Crouch, Owingsville, Ky, burial in Bethel Cemetery.

Her death certificate states Anna Bell Crouch, age 84, birthdate Oct 11 (year not given), born in Ky, died 8 Jan 1943 in Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, father Andrew Jackson Pettit, mother Mary Louise McGill, both born in Ky, cause of death organic valvular heart disease, informant D. C. Crouch, burial in Bethel Cemetery.

In 1880 Clark and Anna are enumerated in Linn Co., Missouri with Clark’s parents, as C. S. age 22 and Anna B. age 23, with children Dewit age 2 and Lizzie M. age 3 mos. See Jesse and Amanda’s census notes for details.
1900 census of Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, enumerated 14 June, lists on p. 13 as family #53 (dark and struck out) or 281/283 (lighter overwritten):
Crouch, Clark, 43, b. May 1857, farmer; Annie B., wife, 44, b. Oct 1855, married 23 years, mother of 2 children, 2 living; DeWitt C., 22, b. Apr 1878, married 0 years; May L., 20, dau, b. March 1880, divorced, married 4 years, 0 children; Lydia, 20, dau-in-law, b. July 1879, divorced, married 0 years, mother of 0 children; Pettitt, Robert, boader, 24, b. March 1876. All listed as born in Ky, although it is incorrect for May.
Robert Pettitt is Anna Belle’s brother, and was really older, having been recorded as age 9 in the 1880 census, although he was probably really 7 or 8. Lydia was not really divorced, but was the current wife of Dewitt. (Possibly the census taker mistakenly entered the D for May in the wrong line, and then moved it up, without correcting it in the line for Lydia.)
1910 census of Bath Co., Ky, Owingsville, enumerated 19 April, lists on p. 3B as family #61:
Crouch, Clark, 52, farmer; Annie B., wife, 53, married 33 years, mother of 4 children, 2 living. Both born Ky Ky Ky.
The next household is that of Thomas Crouch, 33, with wife Liddie also 33, married 10 years, who by comparison with the 1920 census is apparently their son Dewitt, although I have no other record of him being sometimes called Thomas.
1920 census of Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, enumerated 7 Feb, lists on p. 12B as family #265/290:
Crouch, Clark, 62, farmer; Annie B., 62, wife. Both born Ky Ky Ky.
Four households later is their son D. C. with wife Liddie and two daughters, see their notes.
1930 census of Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, enumerated 8 April, lists on p. 4A as family #80:
Crouch, C. S., 72, farmer, age at first marriage 20, b. Ky Ky Va; Annie B., wife, 72, age at first marriage 20, b. Ky Oh Ky.
