Notes for Peter E. Hunt
His death certificate records Pete Hunt, age 74 years 7 days, born 10 Mar 1858 in Kentucky, died 12 Mar 1932 in Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, married, father Jerry Hunt, mother’s maiden name Marguerit Sahey, cause of death chronic interstitial nephritis, informant Jobe Hunt, Owingsville, Ky, burial in Sharpsburg.
Notes for Nancy “Nannie” H. Riddle
Her death certificate lists Nannie Riddle Hunt, age 89, born Nov 1861 in Ky, died 15 Nov 1950 in rural Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, widowed, father Harrison Riddle, mother’s maiden name Littia Boyd, cause of death bronchial pneumonia, informant blank, burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, Sharpsburg, Ky.
The reported birthdate is inconsistent with the 1870 census, where she is listed as age 12. Unfortunately, I cannot find the family of Harrison Riddle and Lydia Boyd in 1860 to see if Nancy/Nannie had been born by then.
Census Notes for Peter E. & Nancy “Nannie” H. (Family)
I cannot find this family in the 1880 census. Based on the chld counts reported in 1900 and 1910, there are four unidentified children, two of whom were still living in 1900, and two of whom died before then.
1900 census of Bath Co., Ky, Bethel precinct, enumerated 20 June, lists on p. 20B as family #393/395:
Hunt, Peter, 41, farmer, b. Mar 1859; Nannie, wife, 36, b. May 1864, married 22 years, mother of 10 children, 8 living; Ella, dau, 15, b. Jan 1885; Lillie, dau, 12, b. May 1888; William, son, 11, b. Mar 1889; Lucie, dau, 10, b. Apr 1890; Dollie, dau, 2, b. Feb 1898. All born Ky Ky Ky.
(The next family is that of Joseph Petitt and wife Annie E. [Varvel].)
1910 census of Bath Co., Ky, Bethel precinct, enumerated 4 May, lists on p. 14A as family #178/184:
Hunt, Peter, 51, farmer; Mallie, wife, 50, married 33 years, mother of 10 children, 8 living; Lillie, dau, 21; Lucy, dau, 18; Dolly, dau, 13. All born Ky Ky Ky.
This is the only record I’ve seen where Peter’s wife is recorded as Mallie instead of Nannie or Nancy. Combined with the Nannie H in 1930, this leads me to believe her middle name may have been Mahala, which has as nicknames both Mallie and Haley.
The following household is headed by their son Jobe, listed as age 32, and the one after that by their son Willie, listed as Willie age 23 (he should be 21) with wife Sue age 20.
1920 census of Bath Co., Ky, Bethel precinct, enumerated 5 Feb, lists on p. 10A as family #196/210:
Hunt, Peter, 60, farmer; Nannie, wife, 60. Both born Ky Ky Ky.
Their son Job is four households below with his wife Carrie.
1930 census of Bath Co., Ky, Sharpsburg, enumerated 2 April, lists on p. 11A as family #9:
Hunt, Pete, 69, retired farmer, age at first marriage 16; Nannie H., wife, 65, age at first marriage 16. Both born Ky Ky Ky.
