Notes for Tazewell Price Jones
Floyd Co., VA, birth records list T. P. Jones, (m), b. 15 Aug 1856, father C. C., mother E.
He was listed as Tasewell Price Jones on the WW I draft card of his youngest brother Otis.
Notes for Permelia Emma Helms
In the 1870 census of Floyd Co., Virginia, her birthplace is given as Virginia, but all later censuses record it as Illinois. On the logic that it is much more common for censuses to mistakenly list the “home state” rather than to mistakenly list a different state, I am giving more credence to the later records. Her parents were enumerated in Hancock Co., Illinois in the 1860 census, and several of her older brothers married there and were listed there in the 1870 census.
Notes for Tazewell Price & Permelia Emma (Family)
Floyd Co. Va marriage book 3, p 54, records the marriage on 15 Oct 1877 of Tazewell P. Jones and Permelia Helm.
Tazewell and Emma were first cousins, since their mothers were sisters.
This family moved from Floyd Co. to Radford, Virginia sometime between 1900 and 1910. Radford is not admistratively part of Montgomery Co. (it is one of Virginia’s many independent cities), but it is completely surrounded by Montgomery Co., so I have entered it that way on the place fields to help locate it.
