Notes for Thomas L. Lewis
Be careful not to confuse him with his first cousin Thomas E. Lewis born in 1823, son of John P. Lewis and Betsy Elliott.
According to the story passed down to grandchildren, he was killed during the Civil War by a group of raiders who commandeered all the livestock and food stores, then took Thomas behind the barn and shot him.
