(The neighboring household was that of Thompson Alfrey. The ages listed are confusing, especially for Arnilda and Caleb. Since Caleb was listed in 1870, he must have been at least 10 in 1880. And Arnilda wasn’t listed in 1870 at all, so her age of 9 may be approximately correct. It is strange that they would reverse the order, though.)

In 1900 John is listed as age 69, b. Oct 1830, farm laborer, with his sister Louisa, widow of Andrew J. McKenzie, but the relationship column says boarder, not brother. The marital status column says he is married, 1 year in the current marriage, but there is no wife evident.
