The annual vital statistics report to the Kentucky State Auditor for 1876 records John Roberts, born 22 Aug 1876 in Rowan Co., father William Roberts born in Grasen Co., Va, mother Mary Sorrell born in Rowan Co., Ky.
There were five John Roberts born in the 1870’s who were in Morgan or Rowan Co. in the 1890’s, including besides this one, his first cousin John W. Roberts b. June 1870 son of Wiley C. Roberts (Clark’s brother), John A. Roberts born May 1875 who married Sarah E. Lykins, and John Q. Roberts born 1879, son of Richard Roberts (son of Hiram), who married Fanny Tackett. So take care not to get them confused.
