The Kentucky death index lists Berlin Black, d. 5 Oct 1986, age 71, in Rowan Co., certificate Vol. 55, #27241.
His obituary in the Morehead News reads “Berlin Black, 71, of Dry Creek Road, Clearfield, died Sunday, Oct. 5 at St. Claire Medical Center. Born in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Mitchell and Tennessee Johnson Black. He was a member of the Church of God and a retired 29-year employee of Lee Clay Products.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Lambert Black, a son Berlin Black Jr., Clearfield; six daughters, Shirlene Black, Farmers, Darlene Spence, Beaver Creek, Ohio, Edith Mabry, New Lebanon, Ohio, Geneva Daniels, Ashland, Joyce Caskey, Morehead, Mary Noll, Murray. Four brothers, Lemuel Black, Morehead, Alfred Black, Springfield, Ohio, Ottist Black and Ernest Black, both of Dayton, Ohio; four sisters, Lillian Kidd, Morehead, Traxie Calim, Dayton, Ohio, Clona Flannery and Eula Mae Flannery, both of Springfield, Ohio. Also 23 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.”
The Kentucky Birth Index lists Garnet O. Lambert, born 27 Mar 1919 in Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Rachel Mauch.
She was recorded as still surviving in 2007 in the obituary of her sister Lela.
1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Clearfield, enumerated 3 May, lists on p. 15A as family #225, on Slab Camp Rd:
Black, Berlin, 25, farmer; Opal, wife, 21; Shirlene, dau, 3; Darlene, dau, 2. All born in Kentucky, living in rural Rowan Co. in 1935 (not same house.)
