His death certificate records Lee Crofford, age 72, born 1849 in Fleming Co., Ky, died 1 Feb 1921 in Rowan Co., Ky, married, parent fields blank, cause of death pneumonia, informant Marion Jones, Crix, Ky, burial in John Roberts Cemetery, Crix, Ky.

He was listed as age 2 in 1850, so he may have really been born in 1848, but later records mostly agree on 1849.

1870 census of Fleming Co., Ky, lists Lee Crawford age 21, born Ky, as a farm laborer with the family of Elias Markwell age 48 and wife Sarah A. age 37. (There are no other Crawfords in the household.)

Mary Adeline is probably no relation to my Halls.

I cannot find a death record for her in Kentucky, doing an exhaustive search. She may have been living out of state with one of her children when she died, and was returned to Rowan Co. for burial. (I’ve also searched the Ohio records with no luck.)

They probably had other children born between 1880 and 1900, but since I can’t find them in the 1900 or 1910 censuses, I don’t have a complete child list.

1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, White Sulphur precinct, enumerated 8 June, lists on p. 9 as family #77/80:
Crofford, A. B. (m), 47, merchant; Crofford, Leander, 33, farmer; Adaline, 26, wife; Minnia, 5, dau; Idia May, 3, dau. All born Ky Ky Ky. (The dwelling and family numbers and the surname are repeated for A. B. and Leander, as if they are both heads of household, but the numbers are both the same.)

I cannot find this family in 1900 or 1910.

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, precinct #7, p. 174A, enumerated 19 Jan 1920, lists as family #4:
Crawford, Lee, 71; Mary, wife, 68; William, son, 19.
