Notes for Chester "Chess" M. Hall
According to his great-granddaughter Debbie Allen, Chester was a security guard for the railroad in Morehead, and was shot to death in an accident.
His WWI draft registration card, issued 12 Sep 1918, says Chester Hall, age 33, residence Crix, Ky, born 10 July 1885, occupation lumberman, employer Column Ames Lumber Co., Stark, Boone Co., W. Va., nearest relative Betty Hall, wife.
His death certificate records Chester Hall, age 36, born 17 Sep 1888 in Ky, died 28 Mar 1924 in Greenup Co., Ky, widowed, father John Hall, mother’s maiden name Susan Roberts, both born in Ky, cause of death accidentally killed by pistol shot, informant Raymond Curtis, burial in Morehead, Ky.
Raymond Curtis was the husband of his wife’s sister Minnie.
His gravestone has the dates July 10, 1886 - March 22, 1925. It is curious that the dates differ so much from the death certificate.
Notes for Chester "Chess" M. & Nola (Family)
Rowan Co. marriage book 6, p. 113, records the marriage on 1 Feb 1907 of Chess Hall, 20, s/o John & Susan Hall, to Nolie Cooper, 20, d/o Hiram Cooper & Mary Ramey, at L. H. Hall's by W. T. Hall, witnesses Clara Caudill & Laura Hall. (In these early marriage books, the parents are always listed by their married name, not their maiden name, so this entry probably means that Nola's mother was remarried to a Ramey.)
