The list of children in this family group is from email correspondence in 1997 with Mary Kearby, kckearby@wf.net, and in 1998 with Cheryl Farley Harnack <prodesgn@aone.com>. I suspect that Julia, Ira and Sarah may actually be children of a second wife, considering the age gap between Henry and Julia. But it may instead be that some children born in the 1820’s died young.

In 1850 Carter was listed as age 59 living with the family of his brother John B. Clark (see his notes for details), and his four youngest children by Matilda were sharing a household:
