Notes for Nancy Agnes Clark
In August 1825 Nancy is appointed to make an inventory of the estate of her husband Eli Bailey, deceased. Tazewell Co. Va Deed Book 1, p. 218. In Oct 1825 she came to court to claim her dower rights.
Census
1840 census of Tazewell Co., Virginia, lists on p. 4, line 24:
Nancy Bailey, 1 male 15-19; 1 male 20-29, 1 female 40-49.
The following two households are Eli’s brothers Reuben Bailey and James Bailey.
1850 census of Tazewell Co., Virginia, lists as family #402:
Nancy Bailey, 54, farmer; Jonathan, 40, dumb; Harvey, 25; Nancy McDaniel, 20. All born in Va.
The younger Nancy is probably the Nancy McDonald who married Harvey, although she is listed as McDaniel here.
In 1860 Nancy is listed as age 69 with Harvey as head of household, and in 1870 she is listed as 77. That age is probably more accurate than the age 54 in the 1850 census, given Jonathan’s age.
