Census
1860 census of Tazewell Co., Virginia, eastern district, Bluestone P.O., enumerated 13 June, lists on p. 21 as family #141:
Harvey G. Bailey, 37, farmer; Nancy, 32; Julia A., 7; John A., 3; Eli H., 5/12; Nancy, 69; Jonathan, 50, dumb. All born in Virginia.
The next household is that of John C. Bailey.
1870 census of Tazewell Co., Virginia, Clear Fork township, Bluestone P.O., enumerated 11 Aug, lists on p. 35 as family #223:
Bailey, Harvy G., 47, farmer; Nancy, 42; Julia A., 17; John A., 12; Eli H., 10; Charley B., 8; Babe (male), 6; Nanny Jo, 2; Mary L. Blu, 2; Nancy, 77; Jonathan, 60. All born in Virginia.
Two households below at #225 is the family of John C. Bailey.
In 1880 both parents had died, and most of the siblings were living together:
1880 census of Tazewell Co., Virginia, Clear Fork township, E.D. 86, enumerated 17 June, lists on pp. 34-35 as family #270/271:
Bailey, John, 22, farmer; Julia, 25, sister; Eli, 20, brother; Charlie, 18, brother; George, 15, brother; Mary S., 12, sister; Susan, 12, sister; Jonathan, 71, uncle. All born Va Va Va.
George appears to be the son listed as Babe in 1870; it was apparently a way of calling him Junior. According to later records (such as her gravestone), the twin Nannie should still have been called that; the enumerator apparently split the other twin Mary Susan’s name between the two of them. Or maybe it was a game the girls played of sharing names.
The next household is now that of John C. Bailey’s son Festus. (John and Polly were in the next enumeration district.)
