His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records William Andrew Swim, age 41, residence Sharkey, Rowan Co., Ky, born 27 Feb 1877, occupation farming, self-employed, nearest relative Parlee Swim, wife, same address.
His death certificate records W. M. Swimm, age 68, born 27 Feb 1877 in Ky, died 5 Jan 1946 in Olive Hill, Carter Co., Ky, married, husband of Parlle Swimm, age 59, occupation brick laborer, employer H. W. R. Co., father Foster Swimm, mother’s maiden name Juelda Hamm, cause of death pneumonia, informant Mrs. W M Swimm, Olive Hill, Ky, burial in Tackett Cemetery.
The “W. M.” is apparently a misunderstanding of the convention for abbreviating William as Wm, since there is no indication in any other records that William had another middle name besides Andrew.

Her death certificate records Parlee Swimm, age 60 years 5 months 24 days, born 2 Oct 1886 in Ky, died 26 Mar 1947 in Olive Hill, Carter Co., Ky, widowed, father William Jessie, mother’s maiden name Elizabeth Watson, both born in Ky, cause of death hemorrhage of brain, informant Mrs. Lois Hayden Jessie, Olive Hill, Ky, burial in Tackett Cemetery.
Notes for William Andrew & Pearl Lee “Parlee” (Family)
Their marriage is not recorded in Rowan County (marriage records from 1903 are complete), so it was probably in Carter County, where Pearl was from.
Nearly all early records for this family (census, marriage, military, etc.) spell their surname as Swim, but both William’s and Parlee’s death certificates spell it as Swimm, as do most of the “mother’s maiden name” fields on the birth records for their daughters’ children. It appears, therefore, that sometime between 1930 and 1940, most of their children decided to start using the Swimm spelling. Rowan Co cemeteries, though, contain 58 Swim burials and only one Swimm couple, so this change was apparently confined to the Carter County branch of the family, which since it was mostly daughters, did not last long.
