His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records William Benton Caudill, age 42, residence Vale, Rowan Co., Ky, born 20 Nov 1876, farmer, self employed, nearest relative Linda Caudill, Vale, Ky.
His gravestone has the birthdate 10 Nov 1875, but that does not seem very consistent with other records, such as the 1880 census (taken in June) where he is listed as age 3, and the marriage record where he is listed as age 22 in May 1899.

Her death certificate states Linda Caudill, age 70 years 10 months 5 days, born 4 Feb 1874 in Elliott Co., Ky, died 11 Nov 1944 in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, married, wife of Benton Caudill age 68, father Judge French Brown, mother Manervia Clark, both born in Elliott Co., Ky, cause of death apoplexy, informant Mrs. Effie Jordan.

Rowan Co. marriage book 3, p. 243, records marriage on 4 May 1899 of W. A. B. Caudill, 22, residence Mizpah, born Rowan Co., parents born Letcher Co., to Malinda Brown, 24, born Rowan Co., parents born Morgan Co., at bride's father's, Peter Brown, by J. W. Fairchild, witnesses Willie Dawson and Arminda Caudill, surety by Samuel Henderson.
Benton and Malinda (her stone says Linda) are buried together in the Hamilton Cemetery on Christy Creek Road. Their stones both say they were born in 1875, but that is inconsistent with the marriage record and with their ages as children in the 1880 census.

Caudill, Benton, 22, b. 1878; Linda, 26, b. 1874; married 1 year, no children. Both born Ky Ky Ky. (The month of birth field is blank for both of them.)
The preceding household is that of Benton’s parents.
1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hoggtown prec., E.D. 156, page 5A, taken 21 Apr, records as family #75:
Caudill, Benton, 33, farmer; Linda, 35; married 9 years, 5 children, 3 living; Alford J., 9; Albert C., crossed out; dau Ludy J. (same line as Albert), 4; Kenneth, 8/12. All born in Kentucky. (Albert is probably one of the 2 children who died, and since his name was written in the space before Ludy's, he was probably born before her.)
