Notes for Rebecca Bare
The dates I’ve entered are from her gravestone, but the date of birth conflicts significantly with the 1880 census, which lists her age as 34, suggesting a birthdate around 1845 to 1846.
Notes for John & Rebecca (Family)
The History of Elliott County, Vol. II, says that John Conn married Rebecca Bare/Bear on 1 June 1856, but Morgan County marriage books record the marriage of John A. Conn and Rebecca Bear on 23 Jan 1857.
Census
1860 census of Morgan Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 19 July, records on p. 79 as family #486/481:
John Conn, 28, b. Va; Rebecca, 23; b. Ky; William, 2, b. Ky; “Gingers” (male), 3/12, b. Ky. The quote marks around “Gingers” are actually there on the census. I assume that means it was a nickname for the son later listed as Lewis or Louis.
The preceding household is that of his father John Conn and stepmother Rachel.
1870 census of Carter Co., Ky, precinct #2, enumerated 23 June, lists on p. 14 as family #99/97:
