His WWI draft registration card, issued in 1917/1918 (the images on Ancestry do not show the side of the card that has the date it was filed), says William Brown, age 39, residence Clayton, Elliott Co., Ky, born 17 May 1879, occupation farming, self-employed, nearest relative Missouri Brown.
The 1879 birthdate agrees with his gravestone in New Sill Cemetery.
His death certificate (scanned online at Ancestry.com) says William Brown, born 17 May 1878 in Elliott Co., Ky, died 3 Oct 1953 in Haldeman, Rowan Co., Ky, father’s name Andrew Brown, mother’s maiden name Elmira Adkins, occupation laborer at brick plant, cause of death coronary occlusion in car on Hwy 60 near Morehead, informant Tonie Brown.
