Do not confuse this William Kegley with his first cousin of the same name born ca 1834, who also had a wife named Jane. (This William settled in Rowan County, and the other stayed in Elliott County.)

1870 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Christy Creek precinct, enumerated June, lists on p. 2 as family #6:
Kegley, William, 39, farmer; Jane, 40; Charles, 15; James, 13; Rachel, 11; John, 8; Gordon, 6. All listed as born in Kentucky, although it is wrong for William and Jane.

1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Christy Creek precinct, lists as family #422:
Kegley, William, 42, farmer, Va Va Va; Jane, 42, wife; Va Va Va; John, 18, son, Ky Va Va; Gordon, 16, son, Ky Va Va; Tobias, 8, son, Ky Va Va; George, 6, son, Ky Va Va. (Funny how William and Jane have aged only 2 or 3 years in the decade.)

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hoggtown precinct, enumerated 17 June, lists on p. 8A as family #135:
Kegley, William, 69, farmer, b. Jan 1831, Va/Va/Va; Eliza, wife, 37, b. 1863, WV/WV/WV, married 9 years, mother of 6 children, 4 living; Leander, son, 20, b. Dec 1879, WV/WV/WV; Laurie, dau, 15, b. 1885, WV/WV/WV; Loranzo, son, 13, b. 1886; Bessie B., dau, 10, b. 1890, Ky/WV/WV.

The entire family has dittos in the surname column, but based on the birthplaces I strongly suspect that the Leander through Loranzo are children of Eliza and her first husband James Foley Trent, both of whom were born in Logan Co., Va, which became part of WV, and who were married in McDowell Co., WV. The neighboring families are Harvey Trent (half-brother to James F. Trent) and Rena Lambert at household #136, and Harvey and Rena’s son Harvey “Dutch” Trent and Mollie Austin at household 134.
