(His son Ora died in the same lightning strike.)

Some records (e.g., the death certificate of his son Everett) incorrectly list his full name as John Henry Kegley; this is most likely due to the fact that as an adult he went by Henry or J. Henry, causing his first name to be guessed at.

H. Kegley, Haldeman, burial at Kegley home, Elliottsville.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pine Grove precinct, enumerated 14 April, lists on p. 6A as family #96/97:
Skaggs, Chloa, 62, widowed, b. Ky Ky Ky; Kegley, Bice, son, 37, single, b. Ky Va Ky.

Rowan Co. marriage register A, p. 60, lists marriage of James H. Kegley and Clora S. Conn on 20 Dec 1883.

According to her death certificate, though, her parents were John Cox and Sarah Barker, and the death certificate of her son Ora lists his mother’s maiden name as Chloe Susan Cox. Also there is no Cloe Conn in the 1870 or 1880 census, but there is a Cloe S. Cox with the John Cox and Sarah Barker family. So the marriage register must be wrong.

All born in Kentucky except Henry's mother. (Rena is the daughter of Rans Trent and Mary Petitt. She was married briefly to Charley Kegley.)
