Evelyn Alley was the maiden name of Squire’s wife, not his mother. J. M., presumably their son James Milligan, may have misinterpreted the field to mean the maiden name of his own mother. The year of birth is probably off by two years as well, since Squire was listed in the 1850 census as age 2 and in the 1860 census as age 11.

Her death certificate records Evaline Hall, age 72, born June 1842 in Ky, died 11 Mar 1914 in Geyer Bridge, Boyd Co., Ky, father Sim Alley born in Ky, mother’s maiden name and birthplace not known, widowed, cause of death mitral insufficiency, informant William Hall, McNeal, burial in home cemetery, Boyd Co.

This family is not related to me. They are in my database because they resided in Rowan Co. during the 1870’s and 1880’s, and I like to keep track of the ancestry of all the Halls from the Rowan/Fleming/Morgan/Elliott county area in order to know which ones are my relatives and which ones are not.

1870 census of Floyd Co., Ky, Prestonsburg, lists as family #19:
Squire Hall, 21; Evaline, 26; Mahala, 3; Andrew Kidd, 8; Gilbert Hall, 1/12; Robert Hall, 11. All born in Kentucky.

There are no relationships listed in this census, but my assumption would be that Andrew is a child of Evaline and her first husband William Kidd, and Mahala and Gilbert are children of Squire and Evaline. Robert may be a brother; he is too old to be a son of Squire even if Squire’s age is really 24 to match the 1880 census.

1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Christy Creek precinct, lists as family #432:
Squire Hall, 34, farmer; Mary, 34, wife; Andrew, 18, son; Mahala, 16, dau; Gilbert, 12, son; Rebecca, 7, dau; David, 5, son; Milligan, 2, son. All born Ky Ky Ky.

1900 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Little Fork precinct, enumerated 15 June, lists on p. 13A as family #212/213:
Hall, Squirel, 54, b. Aug 1845, Ky Ky Ky, farmer; Evline, wife, 57, b. June 1842, Ky Va Ky; William, son, 15, b. July 1884, Ky Ky Ky.

The preceding household is their son James Milligan, living alone, listed as 21.

1910 census of Boyd Co., Ky, Geyer Bridge precinct, enumerated 25 April, lists on p. 8A as family #2:
Hall, Squire Sr., 64, b. Ky Va Ky, first marriage, married 42 years; Eveline, wife, 67, b. Ky Va Va, second marriage, married 42 years, mother of 8 children, 2 living; Squire Jr., grandson, 10, b. Ky Ky Ky; Yates, Tennessee, 22, b. Ky Va Ky, servant, single.

The preceding household is their son William, and the following one their son James Milligan.

Della is really Squire’s granddaughter, the daughter of his son William.
