Roll Alfrey Cemetery has a double stone for Roll Alfrey, born 1861, died Dec. 27, 1936 and Sally Alfrey, born 1863, died Sep. 30, 1932.

His death certificate records R. A. Alfrey, age 75 years 2 months 3 days, born 1861 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 27 Dec 1936 in McKinzie precinct, Rowan Co., Ky, farmer, married, husband of Pink Alfrey, father Thompson Alfrey, mother’s maiden name Hettie Jones, both born in Rowan Co., Ky, cause of death stroke of paralysis, informant Harry Alfrey, Bangor, Ky.

His name is occasionally seen as “Raleigh Alfrey”. This usually represents a stranger writing the name from sound, or someone trying to “correct” it to a more traditional name. There is no evidence that he ever used that spelling himself.

Her death certificate (Vol. 50, #24680) rather oddly has her own maiden name and her husband’s name entered into the parent fields. It records Sally Ann Alfrey, age 69, birthdate unknown, born in Rowan Co., Ky, died 30 Sep 1932 in McKinzie precinct, Rowan Co., Ky, married, father Rollie Alfrey, mother’s maiden name Sally Ann Foster, cause of death paralysis, informant blank, burial in Bangor, Ky.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Pierce precinct, enumerated 4 June, lists on p. 3A as family #44:

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearcy precinct, magisterial district 2, p. 5B-6A, enumerated April 23, lists as household #86, family #83 (between the households of Harry Alfrey and Lee Hurley):

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearcy precinct, p. 217B, Clay Lick Road, enumerated 24 Jan, lists as household #136, family #155:
Alfrey, Roll, 59, general farmer; Sally, wife, 58; Law, America, dau, 19, widowed; Roy, Roy, 12; Troy, Troy, 12. All born Ky Ky Ky. (Yes, it really does put “Roy” and “Troy” in the relationship column as well as the name column.)

Roy and Troy are children of Roll and Sally, not of America, but the failure to reenter the family surname makes it appear that their surname is Law.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Farmers precinct, enumerated 14 April, lists on p. 4A as family #127:
