His WW I draft registration card, filed 1 June 1917, records Fred Wheatley, age 29, residence Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, born 22 May 1888 in Morehead, Ky, occupation lumber inspector, employer H. Leet Lumber Co., married supporting wife & child.
His death certificate records Allen Fredric Wheatley, age 54 years 11 days, born 22 May 1888 in Rodburn, Ky, died 2 June 1932 in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, divorced from Emma Smedley, occupation lumber dealer, father W. F. Wheatley, born in Va, mother’s maiden name Martha Fraley, born in Ky, cause of death accidental (no other info), informant U. Willerd Waltz, Morehead, Ky, burial in Morehead.
It’s odd that he is recorded as divorced from Emma Smedley, since he married America Alfrey after that divorce, so he should be listed either as married, or as divorced from America Alfrey. Moreover, America had a son she named Fred Wheatley Jr. born 2 weeks after Allen Fred Wheatley died. One would think that if she and Fred were also divorced, that she would be unlikely to name a child after her ex.

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearcy precinct, p. 217B, Clay Lick Road, enumerated 24 Jan, lists as household #136, family #155:
Alfrey, Roll, 59, general farmer; Sally, wife, 58; Law, America, dau, 19, widowed; Roy, Roy, 12; Troy, Troy, 12. All born Ky Ky Ky. (Yes, it really does put “Roy” and “Troy” in the relationship column as well as the name column.)
Roy and Troy are children of Roll and Sally, not of America, but the failure to reenter the family surname makes it appear that their surname is Law. Although America is recorded here as widowed, when she remarried to Anderson Alfrey later in the year, she was listed on her marriage license application as divorced.
1930 census of Butler Co., Ohio, Madison township, enumerated 25 April, lists on p. 16B as family #337/340:
Baker, Ovie, 37, age at first marriage 25, farmer; Emma, wife, 29, age at first marriage 17. Wheatley, America, sister (should be sister-in-law), 29, married, age at first marriage 17; Virginia, nephew (but female), 11; Christeen, niece, 9; Adrian, nephew, 5; Janice, 0 5/12, niece.
