Notes for Jesse W. Conn
His death certificate records Jess Conn, age 62, born June 1863 in Elliott Co., Ky, died 12 June 1926 in Farmers, Rowan Co., Ky, married, farmer, notation in the parent fields “it is impossible to learn any of this data”, cause of death appendicitis, informant Willie Hamilton, Farmers, Ky, burial in Carey Cemetery.
(Elliott county did not yet exist in 1863, so the birthplace apparently means an area that later became part of Elliott Co.)
The reported birth date is a better fit for the Jesse Conn of Carter Co. who married Della Henderson, but that Jesse Conn was never known from any census records to have been born in Elliott Co. nor to have lived in Farmers, while this one did both.

Montgomery Co., Ky marriage records list the marriage on 13 Jan 1894 of Jesse Conn, age 24, residence Montgomery Co., Ky, farmer, born in Elliott Co., Ky, father born in Virginia, mother born in Ky, to Mary Elizabeth Stephens, 17, residence Mt. Sterling, Ky, born in and both parents born in Ky. It is recorded as a first marriage for both.
The reported age for Jesse would imply a birthdate in 1869 (since it would mean turning 25 later in 1894), which is not consistent with census records for the Jesse Conn who was the son of Josiah, but since both Jesse and Elizabeth are listed in Elliott Co. with Josiah in the 1900 census, it is clearly the right Jesse.

1900 census of Elliott Co., Kentucky, Crackers Neck precinct, enumerated 16 June, lists on p. 12B as family #200/205:
Conn, Josiah, 75, b. 1825, Va Va Va, divorced, farmer; Jesse, son, 35, b. 1865, Ky Va Ky, married, Elizabeth, dau-in-law, 23, b. 1867, Ky Ky Ky, married 1 years, mother of 1 child, 1 living; Stella, dau, 5, b. Apr 1895, Ky Ky Ky.
Note that the age and birth year for Elizabeth add up to 1890, not 1900. Also, the number of years married is problematic. It is unlikely that Elizabeth is not Stella’s mother, since she is listed as having 1 living child. It is more likely that the number of years married column was misinterpreted as number of times married. Also her age is consistent with the age of Mary Elizabeth Stephens who married Jesse in 1894.
I cannot find this family in the 1910 census.
1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Farmers precinct, enumerated 31 Jan, records on p. 14A as family #156/156:
Conn, Jesse, 53, b. Ky Va Ky, farmer; Lizzie, wife, 44, b. Ky Ky Ky; Rollie, son, 9, b. Ky Ky Ky.
In the 1930 census, Rollie is listed as the son of Stella, not of Jesse and Lizzie. I cannot find Stella in the 1920 census.
