The annual report of the county clerk for Elliott Co. to the Kentucky state auditor lists the death of Samuel F. Gray, 58, married, farmer, on August 9, 1878, cause of death dropsy of chest, birthplace Logan Co., Va. In the parents field it appears that the clerk wrote Samuel and then rubbed it out (ink smears), leaving Gatsy Gray in right half of the field.

This is apparently a second marriage for Nancy; most birth and death records for their children give her maiden name as Jarrell or Jarrels.
