His death certificate (Vol. 21, #10409) records Joe Gregory, age 68 years 6 months, born 16 Oct 18 in Morehead, Ky, died 16 April 1938 in Clearfield, Rowan Co., Ky, married, husband of Amanda Gregory, farmer, father Jesse Gregory born in Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Carline Elizabeth Foster, born in Letcher Co., cause of death cerebral hemorrhage due to hypertension & arteriosclerosis, informant Truby Gregory, burial in Jones Graveyard, Lick Fork, Ky.

The year of birth is incomplete, but the age at death would imply a birthdate in Oct 1869, which is two years before that implied by his marriage record (33 on 26 Mar 1905). Also, he does not appear in the 1870 census, and his age in 1880 is given as 9, and the 1900 census states that he was born May 1871.

Since the birthdates in the 1900 census of Rowan Co. are very unreliable, I am using the 16 Oct from the death certificate.

The 1900 census gives her birthdate as May 1878, but birthdates in that census are largely fictional3.
