His death certificate (Vol. 21, #10409) records Joe Gregory, age 68 years 6 months, born 16 Oct 18 in Morehead, Ky, died 16 April 1938 in Clearfield, Rowan Co., Ky, married, husband of Amanda Gregory, farmer, father Jesse Gregory born in Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Carline Elizabeth Foster, born in Letcher Co., cause of death cerebral hemorrhage due to hypertension & arteriosclerosis, informant Truby Gregory, burial in Jones Graveyard, Lick Fork, Ky.
The year of birth is incomplete, but the age at death would imply a birthdate in Oct 1869, which is two years before that implied by his marriage record (33 on 26 Mar 1905). Also, he does not appear in the 1870 census, and his age in 1880 is given as 9, and the 1900 census states that he was born May 1871.
Since the birthdates in the 1900 census of Rowan Co. are very unreliable, I am using the 16 Oct from the death certificate.

Notes for Joseph & Amanda (Family)
Rowan Co. Marriage Bk 5, records marriage of Joseph Gregory, age 33, and Amanda Riddle, age 21 on 26 Mar 1905. It is listed as the second marriage for Joseph and the first for Amanda.
She is probably the daughter of John Wm Riddle and Sophia Thomas, even though the 1880 census suggests that John and Sophia’s Amanda would be 25 in 1905. Amanda Riddle d/o Commodore Riddle was a bit closer to the right age (she was born in 1881), but she was married to Alex Baldridge in 1901 and died still named "Amanda Baldridge" in 1957. I know of no other Amanda Riddle's in the area.

Joseph Gregory, 39, farmer, 2nd marriage; Manda, 28, first marriage, married 5 years, mother of 2 children, 2 living; Trubie, 15; Pearl, 11. All born Ky Ky Ky.
It is unclear who the two living children of Amanda are, since she and Joseph have only been married 5 years, and Truby and Pearl are both children of Joseph’s first wife Mary Turner. One of them would be Lola, but she is not listed with this household. According to Lola’s daughter Maxine, Lola was raised by Amanda’s parents, John and Sophie.

Gregory, Joe, 49, boarding at log camp (i.e., making boards); Manda, wife, 38. Both born Ky Ky Ky.
1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 9 April, lists on p. 9A as family #39:
Gregory, Joe, 58, age at first marriage 22, farmer; Manda, wife, 50, age at first marriage 30. Both born Ky Ky Ky.
