Notes for Jesse William Truesdell
His WW I draft registration card, filed 12 Sep 1918, records Jesse William Truesdale, age 41, residence Noctor, Breathitt Co., Ky, born 4 March 1877, occupation farming & lumberman, self-employed, nearest relative Kittie Truesdell, Noctor, Ky.

His death certificate records Jesse William Truesdell, age 63 years 9 months 11 days, born 4 March 1885 in Ashtabula, Ohio, died 15 Dec 1938 at Middletown Hospital, Middletown, Butler Co., Ohio, usual residence Noctor, Kentucky, occupation lumberman, father Barne F. Truesdell, mother’s maiden name Julia Blood, both born in Ohio, cause of death carcinoma of c----- (c followed by 6 very low to the baseline letters, perhaps cranium?), informant Ray Truesdell, Middletown, Ohio, burial in Noctor, Ky.

The reported birthdate is inconsistent with the reported age, which would imply a birthdate of 4 March 1875. Apparently someone made a subtraction error. His actual birthdate was probably really in 1877, as reported on the draft card, since he was listed in the 1880 census, recorded in June, as 3 years old, and in the 1900 census as age 22, born March 1878.
Notes for Jesse William & Amanda (Family)
Identification of Jesse Truesdell as the father of Amanda’s daughter Lola, who was recorded as Lola Truesdale in some records and as Lola Riddle or Lola Gregory in others, is based on circumstantial but strong evidence.

His father, Byron Truesdell, was recorded in Rowan Co. in the 1900 and 1910 censuses, and he and Jesse were the only Truesdale/Truesdell men in the area. Byron and Julia had no other sons besides Jesse, just two daughters, Dora and Eva. Jesse’s sister Eva Truesdell married Howard Turner, whose sister Mary L. Turner was Joseph Gregory’s first wife. So Jesse Truesdale was Joseph Gregory’s brother-in-law-in-law, that is, the brother-in-law of Joseph’s first wife Mary. The baby Lola and her mother Amanda would have been affiliated with the Joseph Gregory family through the Turner-Truesdale connection.

It is possible that Lola’s father was instead Byron, since it appears from his remarriage to the much younger Belle (several years younger than Amanda, even), that he had a thing for younger women. But Lola’s daughter Maxine said that Lola’s birth father moved away from Rowan Co. very shortly after or even before Lola was born, which would be true of Jesse but not of Byron. (Jesse married Kitty Adams in Lewis Co. in 1903, then moved to Breathitt Co., while Byron remained in Rowan Co. at least through 1910.)
